FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH

WELCOME TO OLDTOWN
North Attleborough, MA—February 27, 2022

Ministers: ALL of our Members and Friends
Pastor & Teacher: The Rev. Kelly Thibeault
Pianist: Ellen Kingman

Welcome to the Oldtown Church!
Whoever you are, and wherever you are on life’s journey, you are always welcome here. Because we are a faith community that values all ages and stages, and those who are vaccinated and unvaccinated, all people vaccinated or unvaccinated MUST wear a mask while in the church building. Presenters may remove their masks while presenting, but otherwise, masks must remain on. We thank you for your patience and cooperation.

We are so glad that you have chosen to worship with us today. We invite you to join in on the bold print in the bulletin and to stand as you are able any time you see a . The restrooms are out the back door of the sanctuary to the right, as is the nursery in case your little one needs a walkabout. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, and please join us for fellowship after worship!
Please remember to mute your devices during worship.

What things do you need to let go of to be fully present today?

OPENING PRAYER

CALL TO WORSHIP
Look all around you,
God’s love shines in the faces of others.
Look at the windows.
See the light shining in, reminding us that we are part of God’s world.
Look within your heart
For God is there, longing to be seen.

SHARING TIME

Where did you see kindness this week?

PREPARING OUR HEARTS FOR SCRIPTURE
Open our eyes Lord, we want to see Jesus.
To reach out and touch Him, and tell Him we love Him.
Open our ears Lord, and help us to listen.
Open our eyes Lord, we want to see Jesus.

SCRIPTURE READING: Matthew 17:1-8, NRSV (Oldtown Bible: NT 22)

SERMON—”Shine Like Ricky”

What would your reaction be if you were on that hike?

Who are you deep down inside, and what would you need to do to let your true self shine?

PREPARING OURSELVES FOR PRAYER
Hear our prayer, O Lord. Hear our prayer, O Lord.
Incline Thine ear to us and grant us Thy peace.

PASTORAL PRAYER and THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

BENEDICTION

BENEDICTION RESPONSE
Sent forth by God’s blessing, our true faith confessing,
The people of God from this dwelling take leave.
The service is ended, O now be extended
The fruits of our worship in all who believe.
The seed of the teaching, receptive hearts reaching,
Shall blossom in action for God and for all.
God’s grace did invite us, and love shall unite us
To work for God’s realm and to answer the call.

POSTLUDE

** Our worship has ended. Let our service begin! **
Please join us outside for fellowship time and enjoy some fresh air following worship!

ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE

Join us on Ash Wednesday at 7pm for an intimate evening service. Ashes will be imposed, and Communion will be celebrated, as we remember to cherish the moments that we have because we are all dust and to dust, we shall someday return.

COFFEE CONNECTION

On Wednesday, March 9th at 10am, we are going to get back to our Coffee Connections! All are welcome to come to the church for coffee and fellowship. There is no set program, just a time to visit with one another.

OLDTOWN MASK MANDATE

In Oldtown, we have been following the North Attleboro School System’s Mask Mandate. Because they will be lifting the mandate on February 28th, we will be ending ours in Oldtown as well. Masks will be optional inside the church building at that time. On Ash Wednesday, we will be serving communion, and on March 6th, coffee hour will resume after worship. Should numbers rise again, we will revisit our decision. Please remember to treat one another with kindness and respect as we move forward.

As we resume gathering together for worship, we begin to think about what being together as a church family means. Rather than settling for being happy with getting back to doing the things we used to do, let’s dream about what we can do to bring more meaning to our faith lives. What new things can we do that will let Oldtown’s light shine brighter in our lives and in the lives of those in our community and in our world? We are ALL the church and we can ALL make a difference!

“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”
~ Matthew 5:14-16 (NRSV)
