We’re Better Together: How and Why Our Covenants Work

The Center for Transformational Leadership invites you to a FREE 90-minute online workshop with Rev. Dr. Ruth E. Shaver on Thursday, March 3, 2022, from 12:00-1:30pm. You and your congregation are not alone in navigating these times, we are better together!

Once there were three excellent conferences of the United Church of Christ in southern New England: Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Each one was a covenant body with relationships to individual associations and congregations.

Now, we’ve made one Southern New England Conference out of these three, which gives us the perfect opportunity to examine what it means to be in covenant as associations and as congregations within this larger conference. Associations are not just for installing new pastors! Local churches have distinct personalities and unique challenges. If your church is facing what seems to be an insurmountable challenge, chances are that another church in your association has “been there and done that.” Chances are too, that they’ve come through it with wisdom to share. Through covenants we make with each other, we have the power and possibility of sharing the joys and challenges of leading congregations.

As voluntary member churches of association covenants, we are connected to a community of leaders and people who have talents and skills to share. Amazing moderators, delightful deacons, and stupendous stewards eager to share their stories. Public relations and marketing gurus, fund-raising geniuses, worship wordsmiths, and dozens of creative folks are association members eager to support one another and help discern the way forward.
