My name is Deanne Bellinger and I have been asked to be the contact person for Oldtown’s newest ministry, Social Justice. While I am fairly new to Oldtown, I am not new to social justice causes. My New York pastor and I joined the many who participated in the Moral Monday peaceful protests at the capitol in Albany. Among the issues we addressed was the need for a $15 an hour minimum wage.
This past year has seen many social justice issues brought to the foreground. The
one gaining the most attention being Black Lives Matter. There is a lot to be done in America with many social justice issues and I think we, as a congregation, can start to
make a difference right here in our community. We do it now with our Missions
Committee, suppers, etc.
Jim Fennell and I attended a virtual seminar on Social Justice at the end of last year
and the presenter has reached out with an offer to help us take up a cause in our area.
We hope to have a great interest and input to this ministry. If you’d like more information, or if you’re interested in joining us, send me an email.
